We had an earthquake this morning! They're saying preliminary data says it was 5.4 magnitude, and the epicenter was up in Illinois somewhere. I actually felt it--though down in Etown it felt just like a big gust of wind rattling the house a bit. That's what I thought it was, and then dismissed it in the rush to get ready for work. When I got in the car and had the news on, and they said "earthquake!" I was all !!!!!

I always forget this, but I do live on a fault line. It's just not a real active fault line -- the last quake/tremor, I guess, was in 1980, with the epicenter in the same approximate area. Before that, it was 1906--so not real often.

I'm still kind of 'whoa', here. Because--earthquake!

I didn't even feel it! Mom did, and she tried to wake me up, but I was al "zzzzz" Glad to know you and Matthew are doing good though!

Ah, we're fine. It was felt more strongly up here in Louisville, I think, though apparently they felt it down in Georgia, as well. Weird way to start the day, for sure!

It's so weird to have an earthquake when you live somewhere where 'earthquakes don't happen'. We've had two here in the UK in the last handful of years, and it's Really Weird.

Really weird, yes! I mean, I've known for a long time that we live on/along a faultline (the New Madrid), but it's like. Academic. The last time anything happened was 1980, which was quite a while ago.

HOLY CRAP, HONEY!! I was up at like... ugh.. 5? Earlier actually, but I swear to GOD I felt the ground shake. It's amazing because I thought, "OMG, this is an Earthquake" but the train was riding by at the same time and I was like "Don't be stupid."

HOLY FUCK!

At least a train would've made sense. I just thought "huh. Strong wind gust" -- which was kind of dumb, considering it wasn't windy this morning *g* 'Earthquake' never even crossed my mind, to be honest.

EEK! So scary!

It might've been scary if it'd felt stronger, or gone on longer; as it is, I'm just kind of...excited, I guess. I know, call me weird *G* It's really depressing that our piece-of-shit building didn't crumble to the ground. ;) Though my coworkers assure me that even if it had? We've been provided shovels to dig out way out while new desks were found for us *g*

Meep!!!

There's actually a book out (called 5.0 I think?) about what would happen if the fault you're on went. Don't read it. ;-)

I don't plan to read it *g* Ignorance is, at time, bliss ;)

Oh yes, ignorance is definitely bliss. *hugs you*

Dude, wow. You know, I read the first post on my f-list to mention the earthquake, and said, "hmm, I could have sworn this person doesn't live on the West Coast". An Illinois earthquake, that's a bit omgwtf, isn't it?
I'm glad you guys didn't really feel it much more than "gust of wind", though!
*hugs*

Louisville felt it more strongly than we did, I think. My coworkers all talked about furniture moving and stuff like that, and I didn't feel any of that at all.

We do actually live on/along the New Madrid faultline, though, which is kind of cool. So long as we don't have too many earthquakes *g*

Glad it was only a tremble. I just had no idea at all you had earthquakes in that part of the world. *blinks*

*hugs you*

Once I figured out I wasn't hallucinating from sleep deprivation and that it wasn't just the mister twitching in his sleep (that would've been one hell of a twitch! lol) my first thought was, "Wow...earthquake...cool!"

And then I crashed right back into sleep :D

My parents live up in Northern Indiana, and my mother was lying awake and felt it. So weird.

OMG! I'm glad it wasn't anything worse than a big gust of wind, but still—earthquake! (!!!!!!!!!!!!)

When I heard about the earthquake, I thought it was somewhere in Calif and I slept right through it.

Whew, that is a relatively big quake so I'm glad no one hurt and there's not a lot of damage.
