By way of fangirlsays: Fred Phelps and the WBC are going to picket Comic-Con, for Idol Worshiping.

At least if he's picketing comic/sff fans, he's leaving funerals alone, right? Oi.

Something I've been pondering and wondering for awhile now: all the anti-gay protesters who are so concerned for my soul, and the soul of anyone gay, or who supports gay rights, etc., why do they care? If they feel secure that their soul is safe, what does it matter to them if mine isn't? It'll be MY issue, come judgment day.

And as far as Phelps is concerned, he already believes that those who are saved and those who aren't is pre-ordained, since the beginning of time...so again: why does he CARE?

I'm really surprised he's still walking around; that no one's shot him, or whatever. I guess all that raging hatred acts as a shield of some sort. :-/

That was pretty much my first thought, too. Of ALL the people to pick to hassle - a bunch of con-going geeks with too much free time on their hands and a fairly high level of organization skill when properly motivated.

I think that at this point he's doing it for sheer publicity. He may at one time have undertaken his demonstrations out of (severely misguided, IMO) religious belief, but I think now he's just doing it for lulz and to make the news.

Have you heard the stories of the two or three of his kids who have separated themselves from the family? One still lives in Topeka but has changed her last name to disassociate herself from him, and the other two live on the West Coast and have spoken out about his abuse and cult mentality while they were growing up.

It's probably different from this guy, but my two friends who were raised fundamentalist Christian were just talking about this last night. They were raised to believe that you HAD to talk to people that you thought were going to hell because it was up to them to save them. It was their personal responsibility because if they didn't try to save them they were banning their friends to hell. That's why a lot of fundies try to preach to everyone and are so pushy, I think. Of course that just makes most people run screaming for the hills.
