I've had a bunch of people friending my journal of late, and it occurs to me I probably should say hi, and do some sort of introduction or ramble, or whatever. Also, I don't have a "friending policy" as such, but I'm a lot less likely to add/friend you back if you just show up one day out of the blue. I've had some unpleasant experiences online over the years, so I'm a little wary. Drop me some comments, PM me, start a conversation. If you're just here for the fiction or file uploads, that's cool; you don't have to friend the journal if you don't want to. All that is posted unflocked, always has been, and I don't see it changing any time soon. But! If you want to get to know me better -- and I'm always up for making new friends -- then speak up. I'm pretty friendly, I don't bite (unless you want me to), and I love getting to know people. So say hi :)
Hi :) I'm Kim. Or you can call me Mickey, or mickeym, or whatever. Just say it nicely, however you say it, please and thank you. My journal is a mix of real life, fannish life, fiction I wrote, fiction I liked, venting, ranting, etc.
Real Life stuff:
I'm a single mom, divorced now for about three years after 19yrs with the same guy. His idea, not mine. I try to look at it as he did me a huge favor, because (when I can be objective) both of us were actually pretty miserable, and had been for a while.
Anyway! Single mom, working full-time with the Louisville Police Dept, in the property room. I have one kid, Matthew, who I talk about a lot (rant about, vent about, whatever). He's 14, and he's been diagnosed since age seven with Aspergers Syndrome, which is part of the autism spectrum. He's partially mainstreamed in school, and he's finishing up the 8th grade (two more weeks of school and then he's done for the summer). And he'll start high school in August. Which I am sooooo not ready for.
We have an IEP firmly in place, he's had fantastic spec ed teachers (and regular teachers) over the years, and while I know a lot of folks who have kids with special needs have to fight with the school system to get their kids the help they need, fortunately I've been blessed with never having to do that.
Me, I'm 41; will be 42 this November. I don't lie about my age, because I don't CARE about my age. There are days I feel sixteen, days I feel six, days I feel one hundred and six. It's just a number, and it has no bearing on who I am as a person, except to show I've lived long enough to have gained some knowledge and insight (or so I like to believe *g*).
I self-identify as bisexual, and organized religion makes me uncomfortable. Politically I'm a mix of independent and liberal, with a dash of conservative in some areas. I believe strongly that a woman should have the right to make her own decisions with regard to her body, period. I'm not, however, very good at arguing/debating, so I'm not likely to speak up very often (at least, not outside my own journal). I get flustered easily, and then I get nervous, and it never ends well. (Do I even need to mention at this point that I have some self-esteem issues? Thought not.) I'm severely overweight (morbidly obese), and it's from a combination of many things. I'm in counseling for those things, and for the weight, and one of these days things will click and happen. I believe that. I'm also an adult child of an alcoholic, and a childhood sexual abuse survivor.
I believe in equal rights for everyone, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation or religious preference/affiliation. I believe strongly that gays and lesbians have as much right to marriage as anyone else, and that people should or shouldn't have kids as it works for them. I'm never going to tell anyone they should have children or imply/assume they want them. I have one, it works for me, but that's ME. I try really hard not to make generalized, blanket statements and would appreciate you do the same if commenting in this journal.
I love cats, and tolerate dogs *g* I'm scared to death of birds, heights and enclosed spaces.
Bored yet? :)
Fannish Stuff:
I write slash. If you don't know what that is, it's fiction based on movies/tv/books/whatever that involves two guys in a romantic/sexual relationship. I write it, I read it, I love discussing it. I love talking about sex, sexuality, fetishes, kink, you name it. I'm fairly shameless, actually, and truly believe that the longer you're in fandom, the less shame you have. *g*
A lot of the stuff I write is your basic (albeit graphic) sex. BUT. I also write quite a bit of kink, and some of it's hardcore (blood/knife play, fisting, golden showers, bdsm). I always do warnings for that stuff, so if it's not your thing, heed the warnings and you should be fine. If you ignore the warnings and read anyway, don't whine about it. No one made you read it.
My presentdrug-of-choice fandom is Supernatural. If you're new to fandom, to Supernatural, to this journal... it's a story of two brothers who fight evil stuff (ghosts, demons, etc). Yes, I slash them. Yes, I know they're brothers. Yes, that would be incest. I don't warn for that specifically if I post a story where the pairing is Sam/Dean, because four years into the show now, I like to imagine most people reading Sam/Dean slashfic know what they're getting. I also write Jared/Jensen (real-person-slash), the two actors who play Sam and Dean, respectively.
Past fandoms include (but are not limited to): The Sentinel, ST:Voyager, assorted anime shows (YuYu Hakashu, Gundam Wing), Buffy the Vampire Slayer, popslash (Nsync, specifically), Highlander. I've dabbled in others (Stargate: SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis). I've read in all of those plus XFiles, Due South, ST:TNG, ST:TOS, Die Hard, and scads of others that I can't bring to mind right now *g*
I love to read, and to write, fanfic. I love fandom. I've been active in fandom now for...well. Thirteen years. I hope to be around at least that much longer, and then some :)
Anyway, that's me. Drop me a comment and tell me about you! Introduce yourself, tell me your favorite tv show/movie/song/guy/fanfic/whatever.

Date: 2009-05-18 08:08 pm (UTC)Friended you back. I think we'll get along swimmingly :)
(Also? Sam/Dean 4EVAH. I don't mind 3somes, like with an original female, for PWP or whatever. But don't break up the SamnDean.)

Date: 2009-05-18 08:28 pm (UTC)And oh yeah, I've read some threesome fic that was excellent, but I can only handle it as long as the Sam/Dean love is first and foremost. I am such an OTPer! *g*
Thanks for friending back! I'm looking forward to getting to know you better.
(Also, I really ought to have a tinhat icon! *frowns*)

Yay, icon. Will check out the credit info, thanks!

I'm a Dean-girl (I'm sure you already knew that) and I think you are one of the most caring and giving people I've ever met.
Cheers!

Date: 2009-05-18 08:38 pm (UTC)I'm 4 years older than you, but know exactly what you mean about age being irrelevant. I've two kids (a son of 11 and a daughter of 9), one husband (married 15 years, together 20) and one cat (soon to be two - new kitten arrives the weekend after next!). We live in the East Anglia in the UK.
I've been fannish all my life, from Star Trek, Starsky and Hutch and the spaghetti Westerns as a young teen through various science fiction and fantasy phases, before discovering slash through the online LOTR fandom, followed by POTC, and now the big shiny love that is Supernatural (and Wincest). I'm mostly a Sam!girl, and I have a love of the darker and more hardcore side of fanfiction (although well-written schmoop can occasionally catch me).
I post about my kids, my cat, my rather feeble attempts to get fit, and quite often I post the photos I take of the world around me - some of the photos are even quite good, if I say so myself :-)
Other than that, I dream of adventure and a life less ordinary, and sometimes I even achieve a little bit of what I dream.

Date: 2009-05-18 08:47 pm (UTC)I'm a Fifth year senior in college (missed a semester technically) studying History and Anthropology. I have a (probably unhealthy) obsession with Supernatural and CW RPS- specifically J2.
I write and do "art" with Corel and occasionally actual pencils/pastels. Mostly I write. My current projects tend to focus on J2 ('longer' fics), SPN (one shots), and SPN/DA (a series of one shots). Fandoms I have belonged to in the past include: BtVS/Angel, T:SCC, Star Wars, Naruto, SG1 (though I didn't really write in it), and numerous others that I just read fics for.
I've been reading fics online for almost twelve years now and reading slash for about ten (what can I say? Anime fandoms are riddled with it).
While I enjoy reading Sam/Dean, I have yet to really write any and stick to writing gen and J2. I joined the fandom late August '08/Sept '08 via netflix dvd's.
I like Sam but Dean is my favorite. ^.^ My RN is Elizabeth but I go by Suri on LJ more often than not.

Date: 2009-05-18 10:57 pm (UTC)I'm Andy, I'm 47, and I friended you a while back - most likely without commenting because, no matter how much I try otherwise, I'm always in a hurry and PLAN to go back later and never seem to make it. My job keeps me very busy and home doesn't seem to be much better!
I enjoy reading your stories and your posts about your son - my brother has been diagnosed with Aspergers and is now 45. So much of what you say about him sounds so familiar.
We (my partner and I) live with our two dogs and three cats and stay busy gardening and doing the occasional DIY project around the house.
Supernatural is my first really big fandom - I dabbled in As the World Turns for a bit with the Luke/Noah storyline, then Hollyoaks with the JohnPaul/Craig, then a lovely friend of mine told me about Supernatural and all bets were off. I feel like I've found a home in this fandom and am SO happy to have found that not all of the fans are 15 year old girls. No offense to 15 year old girls, but I just don't seem to have much in common with them.
The shows that you like are among my favorites, but I haven't gotten into the fanfic aspects of any except Supernatural, although I have read a few SG-1 that I've really liked.
I love that you write a lot of kink with your stories - I don't think that there could ever be too much of that!
Thanks so much for taking the time to write about and introduce yourself. I promise to try to do better with the comments!

Hi Kim!! You sound like a fabulous person. I've always thought you were a sweetheart! Friends we have in common speak very highly of you, and I can see why! And, naturally, anyone who loves cats is a winner in my book. <33333
Introduce yourself
I'm Jamie, and I'm a big gooberface! I love so many things and play in so many active fandoms that I can't actually list them all without forgetting something. <333333

Date: 2009-05-19 01:41 pm (UTC)I haven't friended you yet because I just found one of your fanfictions a few days ago and haven't read through the rest of your journal but you sound like an interesting person and I might be around for a while so I just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. (And that was a long long sentence.)
Anyway. I'm Sandra, I'm 21 and I am studying korean culture and language and japanese history at a german university. (And yeah, that's pretty much as insane as it sounds.)
I've always been active in some fandoms, like buffy or Angel, LOTR, HP, POTC and lots more.
I pretty much watched Supernatural from the beginning but I didn't really notice that there was already such a big fandom so I JUST watched without reading or writing anything. So I have been active in this fandom for about a year now but I am too shy to post any of my fanfictions. There are a few drawings of mine out there somewhere, though.
I am a Dean-girl obviously and I love Sam/Dean and Dean/Castiel. I can't decide which pairing I love more. The awesomeness of both overwhelms me sometimes. I have never seen a show slashier than this one. Might be one big reason why I love it so much.
So, that's pretty much it. Me. I'll... go now. Bye ^.^

Date: 2009-05-20 06:19 pm (UTC)My favorite TV show at the moment is probably West Wing. Yes, it's no longer on the air; whatevs! It's so smart and funny and awesome. Also, Josh Lyman. He needs to be my husband ASAP.
Favorite movie, hmm—difficult! I really like Heathers, Out of Sight, Casino Royale, Singin' in the Rain, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Some Kind of Wonderful, Love Actually, Mississippi Masala.... How to choose just one?

In that imaginary-person-I'd-boink-with-no-questions-asked-if-they-were-real way, Josh Lyman (I do not care that you are obsessed with your work and have survivor guilt!) or Sam Winchester (I do not care that you have a demonic destiny and a possibly inappropriate relationship with your brother!).
