I haven't been awake long enough for this

An article in Time, on why some women hate Sarah Palin.
The author of the article makes me want to stab her a lot. And then do it again. The gist of her piece? That basically women hate Palin because she is "too pretty" and "too confident."
There's nowhere to leave a comment (convenient, hmm), but there is an email link at the bottom. Be sure to send a note letting Time and the author know how the article moved you. Me, I'm waiting until my blood pressure goes back down a little bit.
Good grief.

Date: 2008-10-04 02:31 pm (UTC)Dear Editor,
I am truly and deeply offended by the article, 'Why Some Women Hate Sarah Palin' written by Belinda Luscombe and appearing on October 2nd, 2008.
John McCain made a calculated and cynical choice selecting Governor Palin as his running mate and it was a strategy that failed. There are many more qualified and experienced women in the Republican party who would have been better suited to this role. Women are not going to vote a political ticket simply because a woman is running.
Like all voters, women support a candidate who will further our best interests and the interests of the country. It serves no one to elect a candidate whose running mate is clearly not prepared to lead in the unfortunate event she is called upon to do so.
Whether the Vice-Presidential candidate is male or female is not at issue here. What is of grave concern to many voters of all demographics is Governor Palin's limited understanding of foreign policy and economic issues and her inability to clearly articulate her positions.
The Vice-President must be able to represent our nation with dignity and respect on the world stage and Sarah Palin is not the person best qualified for that job. Voters understand this and are responding appropriately. Governor Palin's appearance and confidence have little to do with her qualifications and I assure you, no voters of either gender will be factoring those qualities into their decision on November 4th.
Thank you for your time and attention.

Date: 2008-10-04 02:54 pm (UTC)How I wish that were true. My 85-year old stepfather is so infatuated with Palin that he can't see anything else.
This is an excellent letter, though.

Date: 2008-10-04 03:00 pm (UTC)And okay - yeah, I definitely see your point. But your stepfather is 85 years old. The first time he voted Henry Wallace was VP. Palin's got to be a lot more attractive.

Date: 2008-10-04 05:19 pm (UTC)To Whom It May Concern:
In response to Belinda Luscombe's piece "Why Some Women Hate Sarah Palin," I would like Ms. Luscombe to know that I don't hate Sarah Palin because she's pretty. I don't hate Sarah Palin because she's confident. I hate Sarah Palin because she's not qualified to be the vice president of the United States of America, and she doesn't care that she isn't qualified. That isn't confidence. That's being dangerously irresponsible. That's downright terrifying. What's nearly as terrifying is a "journalist" who would demean and degrade her gender by relegating them to the ranks of insecure high schoolers with such blatant misogyny. Shame on you, Ms. Luscombe. With feminists like you, who needs enemies?
NOW PARDON ME WHILE I VOMIT.
