62 pages into Laurell Hamilton's The Harlequin, and I've lost track of who's fucking who, and I'm ready to throw the damn book at the wall.

Someone tell me again why the hell I keep reading her?

Oh, yeah. Nathaniel.

*headdesk*

Well, aside from that, I like him ;) Though I think I'd like him better if his hair was a little (like, three or four FEET) shorter... :P

Since it's LKH, I suspect "everyone's fucking everyone or will be by the end of the book" can't be too far off the mark.

Mmm, probably not. Dammit. I kind of liked the books a lot better before it became necessary for Anita to fuck anything with a pulse (and a lot of things without).

I'm no critic, scholar or lit expert, but she ruined Anita Blake, as far as I am concerned. Her only current redeemable quality to me is the fact that my friend J reads her, and therefore, I can mock him (to be fair, I also mock his mancrush on Dean Winchester, his Guitar Hero skills and his dorkarific floppy hair *g*).

I keep WANTING to give up on her...but there's still Nathaniel *g*

But I will totally concede that yeah, I write better sex than she does. WAY better. :P

(and, uh, YES. A resounding YES to that).

Nathaniel is the only thing worth reading in those books.

But don't bother with anything past this. It just gets worse and Blood Noir? The newest? Is positively horrible, from what I hear.

even for pretty pretty Nathaniel I can't stomach her books - I gave up several years ago, and it's made me a much happier person

Hey! I read books! *g* Just, it's hard to get into fiction when so much fanfiction is a thousand times better! :) See, even Sammy agrees ;)

I was a Richard fan myself, but the series has so totally tanked that I don't even care. What a waste of space.

ugh.

she almost put me off the whole genre. in fact, for a longass time, she totally did.

I have been a Laurell K. Hamilton fan for _years_ love. I won't pick up a book for even money. She completely ruined Anita Blake and it's such a tragedy it makes me sad.

I remember *devouring* the first five books or so -- couldn't put them down. Now, it's hard to force myself to pick one back up. :-/ I hate that.

I'm so glad to hear someone else say this. I'm so angry with her. She destroyed this series. I kept trying to stay with it, but Burnt Offering was probably the last one that had any semblance of a plot. Her editor should be tarred and feathered.

From: [identity profile] mickeym.livejournal.com
I have trouble believing she HAS an editor, based on the number of typos and whatnot I've come across in the last couple of books. It's disgusting. And yeah, she's destroyed not only the series, but the characters, as well.

I've been jumping between authors looking for a good vampire series. The Joe Pitt books by Charlie Huston are good if you like noir, but the last one, Half the Blood of Brooklyn is seriously gruesome.
