So I finally watched "Shelter"

And oh, God, what a gorgeous movie. Absolutely gorgeous. I think I like Shaun better with shorter hair, but whatever.
What kind of mother dates a man who clearly doesn't even like her kid, and then *leaves* her kid with her brother -- going away for "six months, maybe a year" -- and then has the balls to get all upset that her brother is dating another guy? I really, *really* didn't like Jeanne. At all.
Shaun, on the other hand, I loved. And Gabe. And Tori. And Zach? I kind of want to just snuggle him and feed him soup. Or something. I'm still all kinds of weepy over the movie, too. So much emotion, in it. I love that it wasn't about sex, or promiscuity, or whatever. Just falling in love, and trying to figure out life and the universe and your place in it.
I really hope Jeanne doesn't come back for Cody. What a sweet boy -- and he's clearly very happy with his Uncle Zack, and Shaun. The ending, happy as it was, made me cry even more...probably because it's happy. I maintain that I don't care how much hurt happens in between, so long as the comfort equals it, and the ending is happy.
Really awesome movie. If you haven't seen it, you should. If anyone needs it, let me know :)

Date: 2008-06-21 05:18 am (UTC)I really loved Jeanne's character, from a writer's standpoint. And I adore that actress. She was absolutely vile though as a mother, and not much better as a sister. She definitely did the best thing for her son letting Shaun and Zach have the raising up of him, in the end.
Shaun's hair was def better short.

Date: 2008-06-21 03:28 am (UTC)This one just started a bit ago and has some different stuff on it:
http://community.livejournal.com/shelter_my_love/
A couple of my icons I made myself, most from screencaps by true_enough (linked in one of the first comm entries). The others came from an icon post in the community by raynedanser. There's a bunch of icon posts and someone also recently posted the soundtrack, which I also love. The dvd commentary is also very cool, but I haven't seen that linked anywhere yet.
I always hit post too soon. I meant to say, I hope you have fun. I've been drowning in fic and meta posts and having a blast, but need to find the time to actually feedback and get involved again. The community has grown like crazy since the movie came out on dvd, which is good for fic, but bad for me keeping up!

Date: 2008-06-21 06:46 am (UTC)Isn't it just such a great movie? I've been pretty much obsessed with it since I first saw it and I've been watching it constantly.
The mother in me really can't stand Jeanne, but the viewer in my thought she was an 'interesting' character, even if she was a bitch. However, I LOVED Zach and Shaun and just the attraction and love that you could see whenever they were around one another, even in the beginning when they weren't admitting it to one another, or in Zach's case himself. Such a great movie....*sighs*
*hugs*

Date: 2008-10-08 11:56 pm (UTC)Excellent, excellent comment. I'm a Shelter addict and just was taken aback by the cuteness and utter beauty of this movie--it hit me like a ton of bricks, and I wasn't prepared. Glad to see others out there feel what I feel.
