Have any of y'all seen this? Transgender dad is 6 months pregnant after artificial insemination

I just...wow, y'know? I think it's very cool, and that'd certainly be one way to do it. There's still a part of my brain blinking and going, "um. Whoa!" Heh.

isn't it fantastic? (and all the doctors who wouldn't help them on the grounds it would be 'unethical' appear to be using the words 'unethical' and 'unusual' interchangeably) <- sorry - porting in rant from earlier conversation elsewhere

I guess it depends on exactly what those grounds were. Possibly just the doctors being prejudiced idiots, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were perfectly legitimate medical ethics concerns about someone who's been taking testosterone treatments for so long trying to become pregnant -- as maybe supported by the fact that their first attempt led to an ectopic pregnancy. Of course, that could easily be just a coincidence.

Plus, in the US, obstetricians are extremely wary about lawsuits. It's one of the most heavily sued branches of medicine, and doctors tend to shy away from taking high-risk patients.

Y'know, I caught a glimpse of the headline and the picture and for a moment I totally thought it was a graphic for an mpreg fanfic from some unknown fandom. :) As you say, "um, whoa!"

Yeah, saw that about a week or so ago. It's um. Mind boggling? I mean, hooray for them and all, but it's still a bit of a mind bender.

There was an article about it in the paper today, here in Oz - probably because he's been on Oprah, which kind of makes it acceptable news here. It was a very even handed article, not taking a side one way or another.

After an intial shock when I first read about it a few weeks ago, I'm very happy for them. Babies belong with people who really love & want them - and perhaps if every couple who want a child had to overcome so many hurdles, there'd be less unwanted babies in the world.

Best of luck to them!
