Someone commented in Lucy's post about an article they had read on bullying and shaming w/r/t fat and body images, and this was my comment:

This. This is the tactic my mother and sister take, though it's done so gently (and couched in that faux-empathy, "this is for your own good, we love you")that I know they would puff up indignantly if anyone suggested they were bullying/shaming me.

I get to hear things on the order of, "if you won't think about you, think about Matthew. Think about how lost he would be without you, if something happened to you because of your weight."

Which always makes me WANT to say (though heaven forbid I should do it), "wouldn't he be just as lost if something happened to me because of: auto accident/mugging-gone-wrong/kidnapping/terrorist attack/WHATEVER?" But it's only ever "because of your weight".
