Matthew, coming up the stairs: Mom, I got a question for you.
Me: Uh-huh?
Matthew: What's sodomy? Do they mean penetration?
Me: Sodomy means anal penetration...
Matthew: OMG HE'S DISGUSTING!
Me: ...what? Who? What the heck are you watching??
Matthew: The morning news. They arrested some guy for rape and sodomy of a twelve year old girl and ten year old girl.

Then followed a conversation about why anal penetration is called 'sodomy'. *facepalm*

It's too friggin' early for a conversation like that, and we are OUT of diet pepsi.

*laughs* That up there? Actually a fairly mild conversation -- it was more the hour at which it occurred, than the content. *g*

We have conversations like that ALL THE TIME. Jury's still out on if it's a good thing or a bad thing. I'm leaning mostly toward good, because, y'know, open conversation and all. But occasionally there are the *facepalm* moments. :)

I asked my junior year English teacher what that meant, because I read it in a book about Oscar Wilde. She had to look it up. My school was interesting at times.

At my Catholic high school, instead of Sex Ed, a nun taught us about how flowers procreate. Luckily, my awesome friend Andrew got me a copy of "Our Bodies, Ourselves". I had found a mysterious "lump" and was freaking out that I had cancer, but after we looked it up, it turned out it was just my cervix!

The irony was, we got a really solid sex education, including birth control, which for a Catholic school was kind of impressive. But there were some awkward moments in health class when a student just did no understand how two men could transmit HIV, at which point a nun had to explain anal sex. It was fun.

*snorfle* When I was 11 or 12, I also heard the word on the news and asked my grandmother what it meant. She said, "Kinky sex," and basically ran away. Poor Grandmother!
