They're not long, but I think they're a decent enough length, and at least he has something he can TURN IN.

His chosen books: one on snakes that he's had for a while and read enough times through that he really only needed to skim through it, and then we did the other on "Young American Revolutionaries: John, 1775", which is based loosely on John Nicholas and the events that led up to Williamsburg and colonial Virginia's involvement in the American Revolution.

THAT book was 134 pages...that I read.out.loud. It took me about three hours to read it outloud; if I'd just read it to myself I'd have had the damn thing done in half the time, if that. However, THAT would've been doing his homework, and I'll be damned if we're going to go down that path.

Couldn't get my printer to work, so I ended up emailing the files to his teacher, and hopefully that will be okay.

But--DONE! DONE DONE DONE DONE DONE!!!!! \o/ \o/ \o/

(Thank you all, too, for the commiserating and whatnot *g* And this weekend we're getting one of those big Write Boards that I can make into a two month calendar, and goddammit, things like this are going to be POSTED.)

You? Are a kind and generous mother, and if he doesn't appreciate you, he'd better learn to!

Well done, you. Also, you have far more patience than I would've. I'm never having kids. :P

Sweetie,

I don't know if it would help or not but we have an extra Lexmark black and white laser printer you would be welcome to have. It's a USB printer and it does a good job. It's just not been used in a while so I'd need to fire it up and check it out for you.

*hugs*

okay, just so you know: don't expect him to write things down. I mean, yes, as far as he knows, you expect him to, but for my own planning purposes, I ask every Sunday, and specific questions, like, "who has projects, who has papers, what about that poetry book, when do you have to finish reading romeo and juliet, when is your book report due?"

Every.Sunday. And we still miss things, but it's (SLOWLY, OMG) getting better. And the teachers all say this is wrong, that they should be doing it themselves, but their father, for all his many sterling qualities, is a walking disaster of organization (he's on the calendar system, too) so I figure I'm fighting heredity bigtime and ignore what the teachers say and help them learn by repetition to keep up with these things. (Also, of all my friends, ONE has kids who do this on their own. One. Out of ten or fifteen.)
