Matthew and I just finished watching S3 of Dr. Who, and WOW. (Yes, I realize I'm woefully behind. C'est la vie, yeah?)
That's my favorite line from that whole season, I think. I had to explain to Matthew just why I found it so hysterically funny, but yeah.
I liked Martha. As I say that, I find myself thinking there was quite some division into Rose vs. Martha camps? Or did I imagine that? I did like the vibe of the relationship the Doctor and Rose had better, but Martha was smart and spunky and she didn't give up. I felt kind of bad for her, actually, because maybe down the road some day the Doctor could've loved her like he loved Rose... but not so soon after losing her, and in such a way that he knows he'll never be able to 'accidentally' run into her.
I liked something about every episode, though I think my least favorite(s) was the two-parter "Human Nature" and... Family...something or other. I just didn't care for the Doctor-living-as-a-human thing. I really liked the very ending of part two, however, with the funeral/tribute to the soldiers, with Doctor and Martha watching from a respectful distance.
The Daleks remain scary-insane, but the award for creepiest on the creep-o-meter is firmly tied between the scarecrow-zombie army and the weeping angels. Good grief. Matthew and I decided we're never going to be able to go anywhere there are statues like those. *shudder*
However. OFF the scale for scary-insane (or insanely scary, take your pick) is the Master. Just...completely insane and reveling in it. (I was seriously expecting the sphere things to be a new, evolved form of Dalek. I don't know why.)
Love, love, LOVED the way the arc came about and tied all up at the end of the season, and I have to say, as much as I adore Chris Eccleson's version of the Doctor, I'm completely in love with David Tennant's version. Also, Jack! Mmmm, Jack. And wow with the bitchery and biting comments between him and the Doctor, at first. Here I'd been thinking Jack was, I dunno, kind of pining for him (and probably for a while after he came back to life, he did), but really, I think he was just kind of pissed off. Hurt.
The idea that Jack could have been/become the Face of Boe? Boggles my mind. Truly. And all the time-traveling and bouncing around and back and forth? Honestly, I'm dizzy. We watched SIX eps tonight. Six! So the dizzy? Not so much of an exaggeration *g*
Tomorrow a friend of mine from work is coming down, and we're going to mainline S2 of Torchwood. She loaned me S3 of Dr. Who because she said S2 of Torchwood would make more sense if I'd seen the last few eps of S3 of Who. And you can't start with the ending, now can you? I can't, in any case *g*
Now I have to go to bed. It's nearly 1a, my company will be here in about 12 hours, and somewhere in there I need to sleep, shower, eat, clean the kitchen and bathroom, and tidy up the rest of the downstairs. Oi.

Date: 2008-12-06 05:52 am (UTC)'Blink' was probably my favourite episode of S3, done in the proper Doctor Who tradition of terrifying a whole generation of small chldren. I did love the new Master a lot, too, although good as John Sim was, I was sad Derek Jacobi didn't stay on because he was AWESOME!
Martha was pretty damn awesome, but just wait until you get to S4 and Donna. Best companion EVER.
If you enjoyed S1 of Torchwood, which I did, a lot, then I have to say that S2 is much better. Much better.

Date: 2008-12-06 06:05 am (UTC)I loved Nine, but I love Tennant's Ten so much too. S3 was my least favorite of the seasons but I still enjoyed it madly and I LOVED MARTHA. Yeah there was much Rose vs. Martha ship wars in the fandom, but you know what some of us liked both Rose AND Martha and liked the different sort of connections they had with the Doctor. I do think Martha suffered some in terms of how the writers wrote her b/c of the level of pining she did for the Doctor, but I loved how she just kicked so much butt by the end of the season. She's awesome.
Ok I adored Nine/Jack/Rose, but OMG I love me some Ten/Jack/Martha too. Jack is just AWESOME in DW. I think I love him more in DW than TW to be honest. And the fact that Jack's soooo in love with the Doctor and he'll always sort of come first for him -- even before Team Torchwoo-- always made me smile a little. Jack and Martha bonding over their unrequited love for the Doctor so awesome.
S2 of Torchwood is amazing. Simply amazing. <3

Date: 2008-12-06 04:04 pm (UTC)Season Three is actually one that I adore, though Four. Wait until you get to Four. Donna is just amazing. But Martha. I have such love for Martha. Honestly, while I like Rose, she kind of ... bothered me? I don't know. I wasn't a Rose fangirl. That doesn't mean I don't love One and Two with Rose at all. I just adore Martha. And Donna. And Ace. And Sarah Jane. Oh wait. I'm getting into the past. *g*
I will say that I love the Master. Always have. He's just insane and loopy and not always so good at planning. He's better at it in this one though. *g*
Did I mention that if you were in love with Three, you'll just adore Four? It brings everything together so nicely. :)

Date: 2008-12-06 05:37 pm (UTC)I adore Martha, but I don't much like her with the Doctor. She's a wonderful actress, and a wonderful character, though, so was overjoyed with developments in S4.
