AP INVESTIGATION: Palin children traveled on state

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Gov. Sarah Palin charged the state for her children to travel with her, including to events where they were not invited, and later amended expense reports to specify that they were on official business....Read the rest of the article here.

And by way of [livejournal.com profile] raynedanser, a quote from Sarah Palin (I do not know the original source of the quote):

[Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin says she supports a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. Palin said she was "tolerant" of gays and said she supported certain legal protections for same-sex couples, like hospital visitation rights.

"I have voted along with the vast majority of Alaskans who had the opportunity to vote to amend our Constitution defining marriage as between one man and one woman. I wish on a federal level that's where we would go. I don't support gay marriage," Palin said. She said she believed traditional marriage is the foundation for strong families.]

Translation? She's a fucking bigot. She doesn't want to come out and say it in words that can be pointed to specifically, but she's a bigot.

How can people even think this way?? I do NOT understand it.

There's a state constitutional amendment on the ballot defining "marriage" for me this year, and I'm supposed to walk my sex and culture students through a discussion about it tomorrow. It should be VERY interesting. And when I say interesting, I may have to go weep in a corner when I'm done. Maybe I'm selling them short, we'll see.
