Sep. 18th, 2008 10:05 pmI think fanfiction ruined me for what the actual show was going to have. Heh.
That said, I really liked the beginning, with Dean clawing his way out -- and then the broad, pan-out, showing the devastation around the grave. (What I want to know is: why the hell was Dean buried in some random, out-of-the-way place in Illinois? Why not near Bobby's place, or something?)
(Also, did anyone else notice the parallels between Dean checking his body for the damage done by the hellhound, etc., and Sam, when he was looking to see the wound in his back, at the end of S2?)
Loved the reunion scene with Bobby, and particularly the splash of water to the face and Dean's expression. Or non-expression, as the case is. Also, those were a lot of liquor bottles. *hugs Bobby*
I loved the reunion with Sam, though I was kind of disappointed when they're in the middle of their hug and Sam tries whatever it was he tried. Ambush tactics. Also, what was with the girl? Cheap hook-up, Sammy? That's not the Sammy we know and love. (Though I loved her saying "are you guys together?" Hee.)
I don't like the distance (emotional, I guess) between the brothers now. Sam sneaking out on Dean, and holy FUCK he sure as hell is using some kind of power! Pulling that demon out of the girl's body. He checked her pulse afterward--I wonder if the human hosts all die, or if some survive it? And clearly the demon is GONE -- it reminded me a lot of when the demon in Malleus Malefi--whatever, the witch ep in S3 -- when she started to pull Ruby from her host body.
Speaking of Ruby--WTF? Back, in a new body? So she didn't die. And Sam flat-out lied to Dean about her. ARGH.
And. Angel? Another huge WTF, because, WTF? God commanded it? Is this like, harkening back to Faith, in S1, and the preacher telling Dean he was a young man who still had a lot of work to do? I really hope Sam and Dean come clean with each other, because I DO NOT like them keeping secrets from one another.
All in all, I liked the ep, and YAY, Dean's back with no more deal hanging over his head. But it still feels like there's a clock ticking down to...something. Or is that just me?
ETA: Okay, it's been pointed out to me that the girl in Sam's room is (was) Ruby. Honestly, I was just trying to take everything in at that point, and by the time we got around to Ruby in the diner, my brain was on overload *g*

Date: 2008-09-19 02:28 am (UTC)And you're so right. Sam has gone maverick on Dean, and Dean's expecting things to be like when he left...but they saw in the Groundhog Day ep that Sam CHANGES without Dean, and I'm guessing that those changes run deep. It's gonna be verrrry interesting to see what happens!

Date: 2008-09-19 02:33 am (UTC)I don;t like the distance with the boys, but yet I understand it, too.
I wonder if he was buried somewhere remote because of the circumstances around his death? As a precaution since it was no ordinary death?

Re: Sam hooking up with the chick who turned out to be Ruby -- I thought maybe, if Bobby was drowning his sorrow in bourbon, Sam was drowning his in sex. Which would be this totally OOC behavior for the Sam we've always known, but would emphasize that he's not himself. Of course, she turned out to be Ruby, so so much for that. But that makes the comment about Sam and Dean being together that much more delicious.
I have to go watch it again.
And dude, the angel had thought that Dean would be able to perceive his true form. Understand his voice. And God has plans for Dean (assuming he's not being lied to). Mary Winchester, what kind of wacky shit runs in your family, girl???

Date: 2008-09-19 09:18 am (UTC)If Sam is demon-spawn, and Dean is hand-picked by God, does this mean they're going to end up trying to kill one another?
