So the wind that blew through here yesterday, remnants of Ike, kicked the shit out of Louisville.

We had high wind advisories down here, and a lot of debris blowing around, but Louisville. *wince* There's over 200,000 people (and I've heard estimates for as high as 300,000) without power -- and likely to remain that way for the next 10-14 days. Whole trees down on roofs, cars, power lines. 100 schools in the Louisville Metro /Jefferson County area without power, so they were out today and will be out tomorrow, for sure.

The property room was running on generator power when I got to work this morning -- and when I left this afternoon. That meant that only half the computers and lights worked, and we had no a/c, no fans, the coolers in the Bio room weren't working (which means that stuff such as DNA samples, etc. that are to be refridgerated, weren't). We went to the restroom with a flashlight, because there were no lights in there. No hot water. Fun times! Most of the stores/business around my work area are closed due to no power. One of my coworkers lost her car to a tree, and another had tree(s) land on the roof of her house. Another coworker had to call in because her daycare was closed due to power outages.

At the very least, it's cooled down some; our high today was only 72 (compared to the 94 on Saturday, and the 80-something yesterday). But man, I feel so bad for all those folks in Louisville and surrounding areas without power. [livejournal.com profile] digitalwave, I hope y'all didn't have any damage.

Because of the no-computer-at-work thing, I was offline all day. *twitch* I had a meeting at school with Matthew's spec ed teacher about his re-eval after work, and then came home and had Stuff To Do, and wow. I was at something like skip=200 just to catch up. And now I'm overwhelmed by all of the posts. I'm also sleepy, most of which I attribute to being so warm all day at work (remember the 'no a/c'? yeah.)

I really want to write, and I really need to answer comments. But what I think I'm going to do instead is go go to bed.

Later, y'all :)

this is all so much scarier to me than earthquakes. and I don't really have a good explanation for that. *continues to send good thoughts out that way*

Get some sleep, honey.

Hi sweetie!

We were lucky, we had a huge mess to clean up in our backyard but nothing worse than that. Our house is still intact which is so much better than so many people all around us. There are huge trees lying crushed into their houses just two blocks over from us, Taylorsville road is blocked by another huge tree that fell across it just down the street. And there is no power around us except for the few blocks right around our house.

Mom's daycare is closed because of lack of power so I can't go to work. I've got my fingers crossed that it reopens in the next couple of days.

But I count ourselves lucky, it could have been so much worse.

*hugs*
