I work with people who must come from a different planet, or something. One coworker says she's not going to vote in the upcoming election, because Hillary didn't make it for the nomination, and she "has no interest in Obama". My other female coworker says she "doesn't do" elections. And my male coworker was awed and weirded out today by the fact that I knew of the word "plumage", and what it meant. (I was awed and weirded out that he DIDN'T, but that's another story.)

I've tried telling my coworkers how important it is to vote -- particularly my female coworkers -- but they don't want to hear it. And other than beating them upside the head with a blunt object, I don't know what else to say/do. (Any suggestions are welcome, btw.)

Matthew came home with 10394814098124089 pages of (makeup) homework, a note from his spec ed teacher about scheduling a meeting to discuss re-eval/testing (joy), and his mid-term progress report which shows he's currently failing English. *headdesk* The note on the report from his teacher says he's missing a lot of assignments. Matthew assures me it's just the ones he missed last week, but I have trouble believing that four days' worth -- when they knew he was out sick -- could take his grade to an F. So, since I have to call his teacher anyway... Oi.

Spent an hour and a half doing spelling/language arts homework. Good lord, it's like *I'm* repeating the 8th grade. o_O

MANY thanks to [livejournal.com profile] drvsilla for the carnation! I needed that pick-me-up today, particularly after getting home to the school-related disaster(s). That was awfully sweet of you :) *hugs*

And finally, [livejournal.com profile] withdiamonds asked about

chrisna.jpg - it's tagged, but I've linked below to the untagged version.

The MUCH larger, untagged version.

And finally, if you want to use it, Donna, here's an icon I have from those pics: nationalanthem.jpg

IMO, if you don't vote, you can't complain.

I like to complain. ;>

Srsly, no candidate is ever going to be a perfect fit. Although I'd love to be an idealist (again), I'm afraid that a practical approach is the only way to try to get even a portion of those issues I believe are important considered in a national forum, much less passed. People who don't vote aren't (necessarily) less intelligent, but they *are* shooting themselves in the foot.
