Activist: Iranian mother of two to be stoned to death

She was coerced into admitting to adultery -- given 99 lashes until she plead guilty -- and now she's going to be stoned to death, even though she's asked the court for forgiveness. Her children have written to the court asking for their mother to be forgiven.

I am beyond horrified.

During a documentary on HBO, they showed a stoning and it is indeed horrible. Men are buried to the waist and it's considered that if they can pull themselves free and leave the area, they are free. Women, though, are buried up to the chest, with their arms trapped, and have no real hope of getting free.

And yet if we dare to say we don't want such extreme fundamentalism in our country we are accused of racism. Such brutality has nothing to do with race or religion, it's just a sick way of keeping women down and under the thumbs of men.

What a load of shit!
If the court forced her: a) she shouldnt have been forced in the first place and b) they need to have four witnesses (as per Islamic ruling) that she was committing adultery in the first place!
Gah, I am so pissed off, this is the reasons people think Islam is a violence-against-women religion, because of punks and ignorant assholes like this who put us to shame *shakes head*
