Texas GOP Official Platform Calls for Imprisonment of Homosexuals and Supportive Heterosexuals

The points Jay brings up are directly from The 2010 Republican Party Platform. It's a fun read, for sure.

For my friends who reside in, are from, love the state of Texas...I apologize in advance, but:

What the FUCKING fuck is wrong with the majority of the state of Texas?

As far as their assertion that they want to preserve the sanctity of marriage between a natural man and a natural woman (their wording, seriously)... what about the men (and women) who don't give a flying crap about preserving that sanctity? The people who cheat on their spouses, who run out on their families, who ignore that they have children with one person to go start a family with someone else? Or the people who get married in a fit of whatever (passion, horniness, etc) only to turn around a few days/weeks/months later to get it annulled, or start divorce proceedings?

There's a lot of language in that document -- the highlights are in Jay's blog -- that makes me wonder how long before Texas (or any other state for that matter, because I doubt seriously Texas is the only state to want to push for a platform like this, they're just the first) decides they want to secede over this. Because it seems (to me, and I fully admit I could be wrong) that what they're saying, what they're pushing for, is the pre-cursor to that.

Whether or not that's the case, the anti-homosexuality language is nauseating; the whole tone makes me ill. The idea that anyone could even consider imprisoning (or punishment of ANY kind) someone for being queer -- or assisting them in marriage/adoption -- is just wrong on so many levels it's beyond comprehension.

Don't get me started on Texas state politics--it makes me want to bang my head against the wall. I love AUSTIN, but I don't love TEXAS.

Thank you for posting about this! As an ally I try to stay abreast with all the homophobic, bigoted, discriminatory acts going on in this country so I can at least get my opinion out.

I feel like we're just slipping backwards rapidly and all the sacrifice during Stonewall and through the subsequent years is diminishing. Bu I'd like to take up a cry which was heard during that time which is apt now: "Civil Rights or Civil War. Gay Rights NOW."

Missouri tried to pass a law defining what a family was: A child born to a Man and his Wife. Which meant that single parents, foster parents, grandparents or other relatives raising a family member were all considered illegal by definition.

All to avoid gay adoptions.

It's insane to me how anyone could be so fucking close-minded and bigoted. Anybody in any state, or any part of the world, not just Texas. Just, right now, it's the legislature of Texas being stupid. Argh. I hate people, sometimes. :(

I really hate people's close-mindedness :(

It really does feel like we're slipping backwards, and it frustrates the hell out of me. What the hell does it matter who loves who? Isn't it just enough TO love someone?

Er. Exactly what would my half-brother have been, then? 'cause my dad got divorced from his mom, married mine, they had me, and then his mom fobbed him off on my parents also because he was cramping her style or something. (I don't even know. But I think it's telling that he considers my mom "Mom" and "Grandma" for his kids, and not his birth mother, even though they're still in touch.)

I mean, technically, he was born to my dad and his wife when THEY were married, but I'm pretty sure if you'd told my mother she didn't count as his mom in all the ways that mattered back when he was still a teenager living with us, she would've decked you. And she's not really a violent person.

Because heaven forbid a child who needs a loving home get one with two people of the same gender. *scowls* I really hate people sometimes.

I simply do not understand how ANYONE can think it's their business or their concern who loves who, and what those people do in the bedroom. It's not like being queer is contagious, and it's not like we're going to go around trying to 'convert' people to the dark side. Being different in ANY way -- color, orientation, religion, whatever! -- shouldn't be a punishable offense.

I know I'm preaching to the choir here. Mostly just venting because I'm so fucking frustrated by it all. I just want to scream WHAT DOES IT MATTER? And anyone who wants to argue about god, blah blah blah, well, I don't believe in your god, so it's inconsequential to me...and if it turns out that god rejects queers from heaven, that's MY problem... not Joe Schmoe's, who was busy being heterosexual.

Also? I should be in prison now, since I bought my brother and his boyfriend lunch on a layover in Houston a few years back...

We believe in...Self-sufficient families, founded on the traditional marriage of a natural man and a natural woman.

And apparently, with bonus transphobia, too. *stabs*

WTF is up with the Texas GOP, for realz. They also want to ban blow jobs (sodomy). Wonder how that will work out for them.

See, um, okay. I thought sodomy was anal sex? Huh. I've now looked it up and it's any sex act determined to be 'unnatural'. But yeah, what, they would outlaw blow jobs and enforce that how? Yeek.

Well, hell, based on that definition, I'm illegally raising my child AFTER MY HUSBAND DECIDED TO ABANDON US. Idiots.

I guess technically I should be, too, since I've had sex with another woman :P

clearly, shame on you for not running off to find a new man and get knocked up again!

(I don't even know.)

If that was the kind of thing that seriously could get you arrested, I'd be wandering around buying couples meals just on principle. (The ACLU needs to have a case to prosecute, right?)

I've given a more than idle thought from time to time to screening them all for rabid thinking, then herding them into a state or two, surrounding it with barbed wire and leaving them all to rot. After making sure their water is laced with birth control so they don't reproduce any more. Get them out of normal society and give them a 'homeland' where they can enjoy their paradise of lockdown of all freedom, all thought, all joy and each of their lilywhite asses can be king of his own little fiefdom, owning his castle, his car, his woman and his get.

Provisions would have to be made for escaping women and children--asylum, de-programming, retraining to civilized mores and standards, and ongoing monitoring to make sure their early indoctrination doesn't recur.

We'd have to negotiate commerce and trade, and closely regulate any travel outside their zone. It would be hellish to implement, but the rest of us would be a lot happier, living a more peaceful existence. And they'd be happier too, except for their awful frustration at being prevented from annexing the rest of the country to their beliefs and practices.

Ah well. One can dream. Were I QotU (Queen of the Universe), I'd implement this plan, posthaste.

Yeah, it's come to mean gay buttsex, but in actuality...*eg* Of course the Supreme Court ruled that it's unconstitutional (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lawrence_v._texas) to make such laws anyway, though...it's been more than a year since some Texas politician floated the idea of secession (http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-4950073-503544.html) so maybe that's what this is all about? *facepalms*

I love quite a few Southerners, but most of THEM agree with me that we should put that secession thing back on the table.

Personally I want to start an agitation group a la the Tea Party that starts insisting we enforce ALL of these laws...on all people. Like everyone who gets a divorce or a blowjob. Burn the state down over that IMMORALITY.
