By way of [livejournal.com profile] pyroblaze18.

Sonoma County CA separates elderly gay couple and sells their home

You have to read the whole article. I'm literally sick to my stomach with what these poor men had to go through. There's been a lawsuit filed by the surviving man, and while it will not replace what he's lost, I hope Sonoma County gets its ASS handed to it.

I am beyond disgusted, and saddened by this. Who the hell could think this was a good thing?

I saw that this morning, and it has colored my whole day. I just can't imagine being reft of my husband as he was dying, then losing everything we'd built together, every thing of his, of ours. And being practically incarcerated while it was happening.

The people who think this is a good thing? Are the people who are convinced the way they've chosen to live--or the way they appear to live--is the right way. And they have the right and the power to see to it everybody else conforms to their standards, or is severely punished. It was a bitter lesson for me to learn that such people actually exist, people who are so concerned that other people not have the freedom to make choices they disapprove of that they would do terrible damage rather than compromise their principles, or allow others to compromise their principles.

Of course as often as not, these moral arbiters are revealed to be as base and depraved as anybody else, and more than some.

I forwarded this to my parents, who flew into paroxysms of rage, after I saw it on Twitter. There are some people who should just be kicked in the cock, and sadly they outnumber the decent ones five to one.

The tragedy of this is that THIS IS STANDARD OP.

MARRIAGE RIGHTS NOW.

i hope at least this story opens some people's eyes to what marriage equality is really about.

It sickens me that people can do this. They had *everything* arranged & set up... and yet somehow this travesty occurred.

Marriage rights now is undoubtedly a very good thing. But sadly, I know cases of elderly het couples, married for decades, who were treated the same way. Exactly the same way. Het isn't a defense when you're old and not taken seriously as a person with rights the same as younger people.

I posted about this, too, sweetie. And, it's not just that they were gay, although, sadly, I'm sure it was a major factor. But, the amount of Elder abuse happening is completely unacceptable.

I've seen it happen to my mom, over and over again whenever she's had to be hospitalized. They completely disregard her as a person. If I'm in the room, they talk to me right over her head like she's not important. It scares the hell out of me to think of any senior who has to go into the system without someone to be their advocate now.

*hugs you*
