Totally throwing aside everything on earth that's stupid, offensive, wrong-headed, and awful about that entire concept: employees who may have lifestyle-related health problems should...have to pay more for healthy, organic food choices? WOW MR. CEO, YOU SHOULD BOTTLE THAT BRAINSTORM.
Yeah, that's an awesome idea, 'cause BMI is totally reliable (http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=106268439), and it makes perfect sense to penalize people who are trying to make healthy food choices for making those healthy food choices. < / end sarcasm > *sigh*
I sent Whole Foods an email telling them that they have lost my business and that I'll be shopping at Trader Joe's from now on and I got an impersonal stock reply. Clearly they aren't interested in keeping our business. So if they feel they can afford to lose customers in this economy, then that's their choice. I choose to spend my money elsewhere.
Oh! I just discussed this for two straight hours with one of my favorite coworkers who brought it up during my workshift yesterday! High five!
Obviously, it's all crock. I can see where they're trying to come from, but good lord, is it misguided. First of all, since BMI is so often bullshit these days, and secondly, because...why the hell would they let the already-"healthy" people get the discounts over the not?
And now I'm seeing this has already been stated buuuut the points still stand and ugh. Ridiculous.
