a query and a poll
Jan. 24th, 2010 07:28 pm(Which I just typoed as 'pool', initially. Oi.)
So, Big Bang. I need to start getting started, and I thought I'd cemented in my mind what I was writing... and then
annella comes along with her really cool idea, and now I'm torn. So, flist, help me figure it out. The ideas are as follows:
A. Pre-series-ish. Scenario is this: Mary didn't die. Sam and Dean are raised in a loving, stable home with two parents. When Sam is a senior in high school, the apocalypse comes. Happens. Whichever verb is applicable. Anyway, the sky rips open, fire rains down, zombies rise, all sorts of nifty things. Think... Red Dawn, but with zombies and the Croatoan virus. Kind of. Sam/Dean (does that need to be said?), definitely eventually; possibly from the start. So, in summary, a pre-series, non-series (a/u) apocalypse.
B. (This is
annella's idea, taken with her blessing.) Post apocalypse. Both boys survive but Sam is seriously screwed up - the anger thing we saw in 5x11 plus, y'know, EVERYTHING ELSE. Dean finally acknowledges that he has to HELP his brother and that pushing it all down is the opposite of helpful. Sam ends up in a psychiatric ward where he actually gets HELPED. Because a lot of the actual apocalypse was extremely visible, he doesn't have much trouble getting doctors to believe him and they help him work through everything.
Dean doesn't tell Sam on his weekly visits, but he's started seeing a therapist too.
Both boys manage to work out their issues and live happily ever after in a small 2-bedroom apartment. Sam works at a library and Dean fixes cars. etc etc curtain fic. Also Sam/Dean, eventually. (And highly likely to get Joss'd/Kripke'd to hell and back -- no pun intended -- but whatever. To some extent everything we write is a/u, right? *g*)
So, ElJay. Help me decide what to write, because I am SERIOUSLY torn, here. I really kind of want to do both (and maybe will, who knows), but that's not feasible for right now.

Date: 2010-01-25 01:25 am (UTC)Of course curtain!fic featuring mechanic Dean will always be epic love as well. So I do understand your hard decision. *g*

Date: 2010-01-25 02:06 am (UTC)That is, if I can remember whose idea that originally was, because I know I saw it in discussion of that episode and it's stuck with me ever since, but I would like to acknowledge whoever that was.

Date: 2010-01-25 12:12 pm (UTC)I like the second option better. I think both are pretty cool but I have a personal preference for post rather than pre show fic for the simple reason that with pre show we know the final outcome as we have been living with it - so to speak - for 5 years now but with post show you can go anywhere as it isn't written yet.
This is strictly a personal view and I will enjoy either, I'm sure.
Also, I'd rather see the boys moving towards better, healed than moving towards getting more hurt and broken mostly because I really like them...

Date: 2010-01-25 02:22 am (UTC)The only thing that makes me hold back from enthusiastically embracing option B is... the therapy stuff. I mean--yikes. I suspect that might be rather brutal to write. *wince* Which doesn't mean I don't think I can't do it. Just. Well, I can always buy stock in Kleenex. And I know Matthew will fetch cool drinks and cloths for me. He did the last two years. *g*
I need to get me a big bang icon. I rather like the one you're using *g* Sums things up nicely.

Date: 2010-01-25 04:12 am (UTC)I voted for B because... like
You mentioned upthread that you were worried about doing the therapy scenes... I don't know that you would have to get too terribly deep into them for the purposes of the story. I think it would be enough to write about the feelings and thoughts therapy inspired rather than the sessions themselves?
