it's (almost) Christmastime :)
Dec. 1st, 2009 09:35 pmAnd therefore, I have Things To Share!
Let's start with a YouTube video, Band-Aid doing "Do They Know It's Christmas":
For all you children of the 80's, this year marks the 25th anniversary of this song/video. O_O (On the extended-version of the single, Bob Geldof says at the end, "This record was recorded on the 25th of November, 1984. It's now eight a.m. on the morning of the 26th. We've been here 24 hours and I think it's time we went home. So from me, Bob Geldof and management, saying good morning to you all, and a million thanks to everyone on the record, have a lovely Christmas. Bye.") It's also interesting to note that David Bowie does a brief voice-over on the extended single that's not on the short version, nor does he appear in the video. (YES, I'm slightly obsessed with this song. Deal *g*)
If you want to dl the video, instead, it's here: Do They Know It's Christmas - Band Aid
The extended version mp3: Do They Know It's Christmas - Band Aid
Symphony-meets-metal rock band: Carol of the Bells, Trans-Siberian Orchestra with Metallica
Sparkly pop boys: All I Want Is You This Christmas - Nsync
A little Christmas music, oldies-style: All I Want For Christmas Is You - Vince Vance & The Valiants
For all of these, if you're dling, just right-click and save as, and enjoy!

Date: 2009-12-02 08:38 am (UTC)...however, "Do They Know It's Christmas" is one of the tiny handful of Christmas songs that don't make me want to puke, and one of the only two I like that are popular enough to actually hear played anywhere (the other one is "Happy Xmas (War is Over)"), so I can't hate. *Eno voice* Hey, Bono, do you think you could sing your line a little more passionately?

Date: 2009-12-03 11:29 am (UTC)"that's Sting! That's the Sting IN MY HEAD." ( I was 16 in 1984!)
"that's Bono! He gets nominated for the Nobel Peace prize!"
"that's George Michael! Gosh, pop stars had fantastic voices back then!"
"that's Boy George. Boys and girls looked more alike in the 80s."
Kid: "I like Boy George the best."
Me: Ok!
I'm old.
