Right now I'm furious with myself, my kid, my life. So in lieu of stroking out over how those three are combining and raising my blood pressure, I have a question for y'all:

When the hell did posts to wincest start being moderated? And how long does it generally take for them to approve a damn post? Because it seems like 12 hours should be long enough. *is very annoyed*

This is actually getting really annoying, because 1) I posted to Wincest before I posted anywhere else (well, except my own journal, OBVS) and 2) 18 hours is just a wee bit overlong for "moderating" something that doesn't need fucking moderating.

What is with the moderated posting there???? I mean, SPNF does it due to the archive but Wincest is discussion, fic, etc. IDGI.

TBH, I've not posted there since, um, July, maybe? SPNF is just easier and most folks seem to pick fic from the newsletter (or that's how I find new fic).

Over-modding comms is ridic. And I am a fussy, organization-crazy lady....

Actually, I'm not sure what all Wincest is, any more. There's a lot of "don't" things; I haven't seen discussion or anything BUT fics and vids in a long time; not even picspams or meta. The mods post an "ep reaction" post on the day of a new episode, and once a week they have their (pre-approved) "advertisement" post, for new comms, etc.

But yeah. It's become a WEE bit restrictive.

Really? Wow. I check comms via notification instead of filter so I don't see wincest unless I go there for something. But no meta, no picspams?! Damn. I am all for organization but that just seems... off.

I went back a week and found only two art posts; the rest were all fic. Nothing else, until the 8th of Nov. which is Sunday, their "advertisement day", and one of the mods was offering drabbles, or some such.

I clicked on the mod tag, and found this, from mid-September:

Anyway, this is just a reminder and a heads up for a test [info]stangerine88 and I want to do.

The reminder: While we know everyone is excited for the newest season of Supernatural, we'd like you to keep in mind that ALL SPOILERS go behind a LJ cut. That means new character names, events, episode titles, etc. FOR A WEEK AFTER THE EPISODE IS AIRED. We're letting the spoilers that were accidentally posted last week go, but please keep this in mind for tomorrow's episode.

The heads up: For Thursday and Friday we're going to be making the community moderated-posts only, to cut back on spoilers, and we'll have an episode reactions/review post as well (two separate posts). This is just a test so we have no idea if we'll do it again, so bear with us and feel free to let us know how you feel it went.

I don't even remember SEEING this post...but I guess my post isn't going to get approved now, since I (gasp) put the title of the ep in with the warning for spoilers. *rolls eyes* I get not putting SPOILERS out in the open, but an episode title is something you're going to see pretty much anywhere you go, so I find that very...weird. Anyway. Now I'm annoyed AND pissed.

Oh for Pete's sake?! Come on. I am 90% spoiler-free, it's not all that hard to do. This is overkill. I'm sorry - I help mod supernaturalfic and spnroundtable --- huge comms and we don't do shit like this. I am probably being a judgmental negative nancy but -sputters- WHAT? It's a CODA! So you can't post codas or tags or whatever about a new ep? Really? What about pairings and warnings, etc? And how much fun for the NL coders who get to click on all the cuts just to get header info....

You want to know the funniest thing? I started poking around in the tags, and clicked on the link for "posting guidelines". It's dated January of this year... and has NOT been updated to include their rules about the spoilers thing.

Yeah, um, okay, let me be frank:

1. Not updating your posting guidelines when they need to be that exact --- not okay.

2. Allowing a "fan rating" system irks me because NL will not pick up a fic if it's not rated MPAA or Adult. -sigh-

3. The moderated posting is overkill b/c the rule is in place (even if it's not updated) so let people post and deal with them if there's an issue to be dealt with. Making a backlog of posts is just a BAD idea.

I am all for pickiness (I am not a happy mod when people refuse to use tags) but we also don't set ourselves up for drama, log jams, or people getting so frustrated they leave because the rules are longer than the Old Testament.

Yeah, I think I'm going to have to consider dropping them, because this is just crazy. I went back through some of the posts, and there's at least one in there that breaks their "it has to be Wincest, no 'wincest-if-you-squint'" rule, and okay, I'm feeling petty but c'mon. At least either APPROVE my fic or disapprove it, but do SOMETHING with it!
