The city of Louisville is partially under water right now, thanks to the six inches of rain that we got in an HOUR (the first four inches came down in something like 30 minutes!). We lost power at work at about a quarter 'til nine; it didn't come back on until nearly 2p -- and when I left a few minutes after that, the phones were still out, as was our network. There is also about two inches of standing water in the basement -- in the Homicide room, no less. J, C and F spent an hour (at least) down there this morning, moving stuff around to get it up off the floor, with nothing but flashlights for light.

Getting out of Louisville was tricky, as most of the streets right around my building were closed due to flooding (where we are, is sort of uphill-ish, and everything dips downward as you head toward downtown, so lots of low areas beneath viaducts and railroad bridges). I did get out, and then drove through blinding downpours for probably the first 20 miles of my commute. It was still raining in Bullitt and Hardin counties, though the further south I got, the lighter the rain was. Still waiting for the biggest part of the next front to come through. Ugh.

We actually closed the property room for a while, between the flooding and the no power (when the power goes out you have to have an actual key to get in the building, because of the magnetic doorlocks, the keyfobs/IDs don't work). I think that's the first time in the three years I've been there that we've closed down. Of course, right after (literally, five minutes) the power came back up we had some asshole come in to the public side to get his property -- and when J told him our power had been out and the computers were still down, he copped this major attitude and was all, "I see power on all around me". Well, the power on doesn't mean the computers are working -- without network access, we can't get into ILEADS, can't look anything up or locate property. Jerk.

There's about 20,000 people in the Louisville area without power right now, and more than that, I'm sure, dealing with leaks and flooding (and some hail and wind damage). [livejournal.com profile] digitalwave, I'm keeping you in my thoughts. Holler if there's anything I can do to help you out in any way, okay?

And now to go see if I can't get some more progress done on my Big Bang. God.

Yeah, I was worried about you. Hope everything stays okay where you are. More thunderstorms predicted for tonight, I understand.

We had a super huge storm pound through here around 4pm. It has been quiet ever since luckily. We don't really flood in this part. But the lightening and wind was intense. Did you have any flooding near your home?

Hey, be careful! Here's hoping taking refuge in writing your big bang will be therapeutic. Also, I can't wait to read it! *hugs*
