it goes by so quickly

Today I took my baby up to the high school to get his Freshman ID card made.

When did this happen? When did he get so big, so grown up? He's 5'10" tall now, and wears a men's size-12(ish) shoe. His voice has changed completely -- no more squeaks or cracks or breaks, just a low, deep baritone. He has whiskers; not quite enough for shaving, but it won't be too much longer, I don't think.

I remember vividly bringing him home from the hospital, so small he made the cat (who didn't even weigh 10lbs!) seem heavy and big in comparison. We propped him up on the couch in amidst the Christmas Teddy Bears we had, and he kind of got lost, they were so much bigger than him.

He's going to be 15 in a few months' time, and I still can't believe it. Thinking about it, and how far he's come, makes me happy, sad and proud all at once.

If you have little ones right now, take a minute or ten, and hug them tight, hold them close. Because they grow up so fast, it starts to seem as if time blurs.

I know what you mean - my eldest will be 12 in September and starts at Senior School then (his last day at Junior School was last Friday). He's nearly as tall as me when he stands on tiptoes, and every now and then I catch a vivid glimpse of the man my boy is in the process of becoming. And yet seems only yesterday that he was the curly-headed imp who was starting at Infant School. As you say, they grow up so fast.

Yes, I've had a lot of time to think about this over the last couple of months. It really does go by way too fast.
