I kind of want to sue Sonic for false advertising.

I really wanted a cherry-cranberry limeade from Sonic tonight. Like, about 11:20p.m., as I was loading the dishwasher. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaanted it. Confirmed the kidlet wanted something too, so we loaded up and headed out...got to Sonic about, I dunno, 11:40(ish).

THEY WERE CLOSED. *sigh* I know this isn't an epic tragedy or anything, but man, I really wanted one. *sulk*

Also, someone please tell me how in the hell the following...groups of letters (I cannot call them words. I just can't.)...came into being? Because if this is how our language is evolving, I want off the bus now:

"smexing" - What the hell? I mean, I know it's spun off sex, but. WHY.
"wallies" - Again, I know the usage is meaning "wallpapers", but. *points above*
"piccies" - Every time I see that, I think 'species', at first.

There are others, but those are the ones that annoy me the most. To give you some idea of how much they annoy me? Think "Kim's reaction to using 'drabble' to mean anything but 100 words". Yeah.

I figure "smex" just saves me the effort of clicking on the link to the fic.

From: [identity profile] mickeym.livejournal.com
That is a VERY good point! I didn't think of it that way. You're a genius!

Now if I can just get over my knee-jerk reaction when seeing it to "screaming" at the poster, "WHAT THE HELL USE REAL WORDS!!!!11!1" *cough*

Kinda like how huge, oddly distorted banners with lots of pink and flashing stuff saves us the effort of clicking, too, yeah? :)

Now... what can you do about my cherry limeade issue? *g*

Date: 2009-05-23 04:33 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] without-me.livejournal.com
I can do nothing about the cherry limeade. But at least you live somewhere it exists? I've never experienced such a thing.

*is horrified* Y'all don't have Sonic out there?? OMG, you're deprived! (or is it depraved? I can never remember... *g*)

If ever you make it eastward to my neck of the woods, I will take you to Sonic and get you a cherry limeade (with or without the cranberry *g*). They're sweet-tart and very yummy.

It's both! And cranberry makes most things better!

It's both!

In your case? Definitely ;)

Cranberry. Mmmm. I'm going to go tomorrow and get one. *nods* I'll think of you when I drink it *g*

Here, have a Jared to go with all the Jensens.

I haaaaate when a place closes before it says it will. Especially if I've driven for ages to get there! D:

WALLIES PISS ME OFF. I refuse to click on posts with that word in them on principle. Smexing and piccies also irritate but not nearly as much as wallies. JUST CALL THEM WALLPAPERS. It takes .0000001 more second to type! *tears hair*

Date: 2009-05-23 04:22 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mickeym.livejournal.com
Yeah, I think 'wallies' irritates me the most, though smexing comes in a close second. It's a whole THREE EXTRA LETTERS to type out "wallpapers". Geez. Of course, I also balk at using 'u r ______' when texting--yes, I type out most every word *g*

Don't fuck with my language, dammit!

Date: 2009-05-23 04:25 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] annella.livejournal.com
I type out every word too when I'm texting! Unless I run out of space, in which case I'll concede to using 'u' but I REFUSE to use 'ur'... I use 'yr' instead!

It's nice to know I'm not the only one who does that *g*

*blink* I'm lost at wallies being about wallpaper, because I've always heard it to mean somebody who's a right twit.

I have no idea what smexing is.

I hate piccies, because it looks like it wants to be pixies, but's misspelt.

Cherry limeade sounds yummy, but all I have are lemons and blueberries :/

Date: 2009-05-23 04:41 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mickeym.livejournal.com
Everybody is shortening things: pressies, piccies (I prefer 'pix' or 'pics', myself), wallies. I do not understand this, as, like I told Elle up above, it's a whole extra three letters between 'wallies' and 'wallpapers'. Errgh.

"Smexing" is the oh-so-cutesy way of indicating there's sex happening in a story. Which, y'know, isn't made obvious by the rating of NC-17. *rolls eyes* (It's usually perpetuated by the same people who put notes in their story to the tune of 'graphic m/m sex (smexing)!' -- when posting to an all slash community. o_O)

Cherry limeade is very yummy, and even moreso with cranberry juice added in. :) I don't know about blueberries in a drink, but blueberries in a bowl with a sprinkle of sugar and a bit of milk are YUMMY. :)

From: [identity profile] mickeym.livejournal.com
I don't mind LOL every so often, but when it's used as punctuation it drives me nuts. I don't mind OMG, but the other two seem kind of redundant, to me. WTF I like... but it's taken me a long time to acclimate to FTW.

Maybe I'm getting too old to learn this whole new, evolved version of language?

Wally, singular, is Australian vernacular for idiot. So you'd say, "You wally!" to your mate if he was being an idiot, or, "You bunch of wallies!" to your mates, plural, if they were doing the same thing.

Aigh, Sonic!! There used to be one right near my house, but they closed down recently on account of the crappy economy and too much competition. :(

Is your Sonic supposed to be open to midnight or something? I hate places that close earlier than they advertise. BOO.

Date: 2009-05-23 04:49 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mickeym.livejournal.com
Oh, man. I think I'd cry if they closed our Sonic! :( I will drink a limeade in your honor :)

All the commercials say "Sonic...open until midnight, or later". I don't know if maybe it's a summer thing -- except I ran into this once or twice last summer, too. I have a feeling that what happens is, they probably have a lull in customers, and think 'ooh, we'll close early'. But it's Friday night! Even in a small town! You'd think they could at least manage midnight!

And I think I've officially abused enough !'s for the night...

Lots of that kind of stuff annoys me, but I think it is the drabble being anything more or less than 100 words that frosts my cookies.

When [livejournal.com profile] virtualpersonal and I opened the [livejournal.com profile] spn_drabble comm we specifically indicated on the profile page 100 words on the dot or one of us will delete it. We even included links for people to read exactly what a drabble is.

I think that is the beauty of it. Being able in that number of words to tell a story with a beginning, middle and end. It is an art and if it is other than 100 words it just ain't right.

Sonic, we have one in our town. Interestingly enough I have never eaten there but they have Happy Hour every day between 2 and 4pm for 1/2 price drinks so we take turns going there and bringing stuff back for the office. I've never had one of there limeade type drinks but the girls that work for me love 'em.

Closing early...now that is just wrong...if you call them and tell them what happened I bet they give you free stuff. One of the girls in my office called when they screwed up her order and the next time she went it was completely free. They had her name written on some kind of list.

AT LAST!!! SOMEONE WHO GETS IT!! Dude. Seriously. I made up this icon ages ago (had to rotate it out for a while, because of space issues) because I just couldn't deal. 100 words, not including the title. Not 101. Not 99 or 98. It's not a hard concept.

(Do you allow double/triple drabbles, if they're labeled as such? Or is it strictly one-at-a-time?)

I don't know that they closed early, but I might give 'em a call in the morning and ask what their closing time is supposed to be. Because man. *g* And yes, I like the "Happy Hour" thing. You should try one of the limeades some time. They're very good :)

Date: 2009-05-23 05:31 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] softbluebuddy.livejournal.com
Yes, we allow double/triple drabbles if they are labeled that way but there actually needs to be a break between each 100 word section.

For instance, I did a couple of drabbles and the comments were 'what happens next?' so I ended up posting one a day for 8 days, 11 days, and one time 15 days to tell a complete story 100 words at a time. Then when all done, I posted them all together broken into the sections of 100 words.

I haven't updated my Drabble list lately, but if you go to the bottom of this entry you'll see what I mean about the Drabble series.

And thanks, I'll have to check out the drabble comm. I haven't drabbled much in a while, but I do like to do them. Just to prove I can *g*

Oh, no. I don't know, I have this weird thing about using fan-terms in things like fanfic - it just doesn't fit and it makes me feel a little queasy. I mean, go ahead and use it in your own time, but I don't think you should if you're putting a piece of work out there. But that's just me.

Okay, wait, wallies, what?

Because the only "wallies" I know about are a product intended for use like wallpaper, only removable. So you get, like, a birdcage outline or something and stick it up on your wall.

Wallies sounds like willies and that just- no! O.o I saw someone once shorten "animations" to "anis" (which is the German spelling for Anise) and just- no. Again. Seriously, it takes less than a second to type out the complete word and not make yourself look like a tool.

Another pet peeve I have is when people use swear words (in their title or summary) and don't spell them out. Like "The adventures of f***ing of Jensen and Jared" (warning: smexing, m/m sex, slash, don't read if you don't like) and then posting it to every and all slash community that is out there. Oh boy.

I hear you on the Sonic! Not that we have them over here but when I was in NYC, a friend of mine and I wanted to go to a bakery to get a cupcake and they turned the key in front of our eyes. It was a matter of 2 minutes, if even. I nearly went crazy.

I had to look up "smexing" in the urban dictionary because you got me thinking that I maybe didn't know what it really meant. So, I guess, smutty sex? Interesting.

"Wallies" are wallabies. hahaha!

"Piccies", though... I never actually heard of that one but it's listed. Weird. Weird.

And don't even get me started on drabble. *Urgh*

Yes, I am one of those people who spells out everything in text messages. I even use the correct punctuation. :D
