For a mother's day gift I asked Matthew to clean up the living room for me -- top to bottom, dust and vacuum, all that. He looked at me and said "can't I just buy you something?" Heh. I said nope, a true gift is something that takes some effort. He's downstairs right now, cleaning.

For everyone celebrating today, I hope all of you have a wonderful day today, whether you're mothers, moms-to-be, foster moms, stepmoms, grandmothers, or someone who had the responsibility of raising a child/children. For my friends who've lost their mothers, whether recently or not, I hope your memories are some comfort, and please know I keep you in my thoughts.

Happy Mother's Day to you! You are awesome! (And props to Matthew today for delivering on your gift.)

(I deeply appreciate your thoughts toward those of us who've lost our mothers. This is my first Mother's Day without Mom. I'll be spending it with my best work buddy, who also recently lost her mother. Being with a "sister" who is going through exactly what I'm going through, laughing and crying together, will be deeply comforting to both of us.)

I hope Matthew did a great job -- my boy and I worked on the yard together and it was fun.
