I felt bad for Dean going deaf, too, but figured it wasn't a totally impossible scenario. As far as the hearing aid thing--well. He's a guy, there's that whole macho thing going on, y'know? (Probably applies to your dad, too. Guys are just weird.) Plus the age thing.
