OMG, y'all. I have worms -- earthworms! -- IN MY HOUSE. INSIDE my house. I came into the kitchen to sit at the table for a while, since sitting on the couch my leg muscles kept spazzing and it was uncomfortable. I walk into my kitchen -- I was just IN my kitchen an hour ago and it was worm free! -- AND WORMS ON MY FLOOR.

I'm kinda freaked out by this (in case you couldn't tell). How the hell do you get worms INSIDE a house??

It's like a bug menagerie in here, now: silverfish and ants in my bedroom and worms in my kitchen/laundry area.

And completely unrelated to the worm trauma, the muscle/tissue area just below my left thumb, on the mound-like part of my palm? Has itched ALL DAY. Like, under the skin itches. It's making me crazy because it won't stop, and there's no visible explanation for it, no rashes/hives/bites.

Worms! In! My! House! Meep!

How many worms are we talking here? *aghast face*

Well, as far as I'm concerned, ANY is too many. But we're talking three. And none of them anywhere near, like, a door. One was right by my refrigerator, one was in the "open" area where my kitchen gives way to the laundry area and half-bath, and the third was by my washer.

I just--*flails*

I can't remember - do you have a cat? Could the cat have brought them in?
Unless they rode in from the store on a lettuce or something?
It's unfathomable. I HATE MYSTERIES OF THE WORM VARIETY!

Hah, no. My cat died years ago. And no, no lettuce or any other produce. It rained last night -- like, an inch and a half in a couple hours' time, so I'm sure it's related to that...but HOW THE HELL DID THEY GET INSIDE??

God, I am so tired. But I can't sleep until my kid is up, and that's another 45 min.

OMG! Really?? ooooo-yuk! Have you solved the mystery yet? Solution: maybe let the bird out of the cage? Or in from the yeard? I dunno. WORMS? Suddenly ants aren't so bad.

Three??? Would it be unsympathetic to chuckle, just a wee bit? Like Sam said to Dean in the fairy ep. "I'm not supposed to laugh?" (or something similar)

I guess they must have inched their way in. That's a disturbing thought, isn't it. Let's not think about that. I'm suddenly glad I live upstairs. A really hardy worm might inch its way up a couple of my 17 steps BUT. I'm safe. It's raining like the blazes here, which makes it noisy because the roof is repaired with corrugated iron and there's a hole in the ceiling still! Dry, but NOISY. LOL. But no worms. So I'm all good.
I should go to bed too, I've got an early meeting but I'm still getting my lecture ready for after that. BAAAAAHHHHHH. Sleepy also.

Maybe you have a tick? Or got bit and now have cellulitus? I had that after working in my garden thing once- it was terrible. If it keeps itching like that for the next two or three days, id suggest going to see the doctor okay? Because cellulitus can develop into some nasty- even fatal viruses :C

Maybe you could call an exterminator? :S

I get random itchies all the time, but then again, I'm the one with the bizarre allergies and never know when I'm going to stumble into a reaction, so.

And ew worms! three? Definitely weather related. Did you bring in anything from outside they could have been on/in?

Check the baseboards. The worms may have found their way in through a gap between the foundation and wall under a baseboard.

My back bathroom needs *serious* work, and we occasionally get worms & slugs wandering in this way.

I second this theory.

I'm more okay with invertebrates than most people? and we had Slug Visitations for a long time, with slugs entering the kitchen by making their way up a pipe that had a gap around it. No slugs since I filled in the gap with pieces of styrofoam (from a meat tray) and good old Duct Tape. :)

Earthworms surface when they detect vibrations (like rain). Perhaps they are being disturbed by your refrigerator or washing machine -- or by work outside -- or perhaps they are fleeing a mole? Do you have a wall that is underground at all, or piled up with leaves outside?

*pets* you have a garden bed you can put them in that's raised a little so they won't drown?

itchy palms is supposed to mean unexpected money is on the way...

OMG, KIM. TRAUMATIZING!!!!!

Have I mentioned how much I hate worms? I really really fucking hate worms. IDK where it comes from - for fuck's sake, I was raised on a FARM - but worms have always grossed me out worse than any other creepy crawly. When I was a kid, I drove my Dad nuts because I refused to bait my fishing hook with worms, and when I was in junior high I got my very first (and only) F on a school assignment when I refused to touch the worm we were supposed to dissect in Life Sciences, lol. And then there was that scene in Buffy where the assassin guy is MADE UP OF WORMS OMG OMG OMG SO GROSS. Shudder.

Do you think all the weird weather is what's causing this sudden creepy crawly invasion?

I'd bet on the weather, for sure.

But you might want to call Tangina. Or the Ghostfacers.

Or those tall guys with the noisy old car.

Seriously, I'd be talking to the landlord about pest control. 'Cause, damn.

it's traumatic, but every once in a while i'll find a couple of earth worms in the house, always in the same room (which happens to be the lowest part of the house)... it's something to do with the weather? idk. i just toss them back outside when it happens. :)

I, too, am pretty okay with most invertebrates. By now the kids are starting to think the baby slugs are kinds cute. We even get the occasional millipede or slender salamander (not an invertebrate).

We rescue the millipedes and salamanders when we find them.

They are definitely trying to get away from the heavy rain. We get them on the sidewalks and patios sometimes and they crawl there to escape flooding rain. They like moist soil but still have to breathe. Also the itching on the palm is supposed to mean you will get unexpected money. Hope you get some money!
