I was never in band, but the l'il-bro-type was for a long time. I'm not sure I remember them having Saturday practices, actually. Maybe if they were about to go to a festival or in the immediate couple of weeks before marching band season, but not as a regular thing.
Regular ban/orchestra: mostly during the week (during and after school), but many hours on the weekends before a competition.
Marching band: many hours (e.g. 4+) on Saturdays and Sundays unless there was a football game or before a competition. We would also have all-day practices during the summer.
I was in both the regular and the marching band, sweetie. Depending on what was going on we'd have practice on Saturdays sometime. Especially if we had a competition coming up.
Plus, there was always band camp in the summer as well. I played baritone sax in the marching and pep bands, soprano & bass clarinet in orchestra. :)
