oh yeah, we're having fun now
Feb. 23rd, 2011 01:08 pmLast night I had Matthew unplug my laptop and take it upstairs while I finished tidying up downstairs. I followed him shortly, got him shuttled off to bed and then did my thing until I was ready to go to bed.
Today, I poked around online (upstairs) and then did some stuff (also upstairs). Decided it was time to relocate to the couch to put my feet up. Brought the laptop (with power cord) down with me. Went to plug it into the socket nearest the couch...and discovered the third prong of the plug was broken off and *still in the outlet*
I am fairly sure this isn't a good thing, and there's no way in hell I'm going to attempt to get that prong out myself. I have no desire to be electrocuted, thanks. So now I have to call the office to send the maintenance guy over. Yay. *sigh*
I suppose I should just do that and get it over with, because I can't help but imagine it's at least a moderate fire hazard waiting to happen. Meh.
How's everyone's Wednesday going?

Date: 2011-02-23 06:31 pm (UTC)My Wednesday is alright. Physically, I feel like I've been hit by a truck but did you see my latest post? About how the Justice Department is to stop defending DOMA and that it should be struck down as a violation of gay couples' rights??? I can only hope there is serious follow through on this.

Date: 2011-02-23 06:58 pm (UTC)Or is it one of the simpler two-prong cords? If one of those has broken off, then the cord's useless to you. Does the cord itself separate from the power adaptor block? If so, you can probably get a replacement power cord from Radio Shack or Best Buy or any electronics joint.
Re: getting the broken pin out of the outlet -- you'll definitely need to find the appropriate breaker and turn off current to that outlet. Then you'll need a good pair of needle-nose pliers with insulated / rubber-dipped handles to get the broken prong out.
Course, you could just always replace the whole socket module -- they aren't too expensive and you can get them at most hardware stores with electrical supply depts.
(Yes, we Haylings have developed a certain familiarity with DIY crap (ya gotta save $$ somehow, right?))
That sucks!

Date: 2011-02-23 07:56 pm (UTC)"WASHINGTON — President Obama, in a major legal policy shift, has directed the Justice Department to stop defending the Defense of Marriage Act — the 1996 law that bars federal recognition of same-sex marriages — against lawsuits challenging it as unconstitutional.
Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. sent a letter to Congress on Wednesday saying that the Justice Department will now take the position in court that the act should be struck down as a violation of same-sex couples’ rights to equal protection under the law."
:DDDD
But anyway- I hope your house doesnt burn down! that would be positively terrible :O hurry and get it fixed soon!!!
