I thought HotH was an...ordinary episode when I first saw it, although interesting in that Sam believed in God and angels. What really fascinates me, though, is the way they used things from that ep, written before the angels plotline was conceived, in future episodes. Like Mary telling Dean angels were watching over him, like Sam being so excited the first time he met Castiel and Uriel, and being so crushed at their reaction to him. It made the angels plotline feel more organic than it was.
