Date: 2011-01-18 04:33 am (UTC)He's a big ol' softie. YES, he has daddy issues up the wazoo, but that's not (imo) why he's a softie, per se.
CHiPs! And oh, Kono. *facepalm* "What's that?" *sigh*

Date: 2011-01-18 05:04 am (UTC)Between Steve crouching down to talk to the kid, fixing his GI Joe/superhero guy, and later, being ready to feed Nicole the black widow through a chipper-shredder and then going back to Grandpa the Mechanic to let him know he'd cleared his son's name, and also gotten a letter from the governor, and being kind of bowled over that the guy had found the master cylinder for him...
Yeah, Steve's a good guy, and he's rockin' the same soft marshmallow center inside a suit of armor that Jim Ellison had goin' on -- that vulnerable soul that seems surprised that people actually really, really like him, or better yet, love him. Like he's become so used to not having a family any more, or anyone who's anything more than a casual acquaintance, that becoming part of a new family -- a family that actually likes, appreciates, and loves him -- leaves him sort of skittish, as if he's afraid he's a pinch away from waking up and learning it's all been a dream.
