Is Delicious being shut down? And should I be worried about my data?

- No, we are not shutting down Delicious. While we have determined that there is not a strategic fit at Yahoo!, we believe there is a ideal home for Delicious outside of the company where it can be resourced to the level where it can be competitive.

What is Yahoo! going to do with Delicious?

- We’re actively thinking about the future of Delicious and we believe there is a home outside the company that would make more sense for the service and our users. We’re in the process of exploring a variety of options and talking to companies right now. And we’ll share our plans with you as soon as we can.

I'm...cautiously optimistic, but I'm glad I have my bookmarks backed up and housed in a second place just in case.

Please God, let them sell it to someone with a brain.

Keep in mind, though, that Yahoo! is a clusterfuck of fail and if they're only just now making this statement it's a new one or they would have made it yesterday in response to all the freaking out, instead of just running around saying "who leaked that?? They're going to be fired!"

I have to wonder if they're seeing all the people deleting their Yahoo accounts and swearing never to use another Yahoo service, and now they're having to take a second look at their belief that not that many people use or care about Delicious. *snort*

OR...wonder if they're so unbelievably fucking stupid that it never occurred to them they could sell it until people starting calling them stupid and saying "Why don't they at least try to SELL IT????" all over the web.
