While I was out running errands.

White, Straight and Republican male. (What else can I do to piss you off today?)

I wanted to rear-end him so badly. Or possibly bash his head in, but whatever. Which made me angry(ier) in turn, because I allowed the stupid bumper sticker to make me angry, which I'm sure was the intent. (Or at least the intent is to annoy. Which, whoo boy, yes.)

I really dislike stupid people who FLAUNT their stupidity--and close-mindedness.

ETA: I've edited my post, because I've been made aware that some of what I said was bigoted and close-minded by making what could be perceived as a blanket statement. That wasn't my intent; it wasn't my intent to hurt anyone.

I don't have a problem with religion, with God or Jesus, or bumper stickers about all of that. I have a problem with people who use their religion as a jumping-off point for their bigotry--BUT I need to be more careful about blanket statements and how I present things.

Yes, and yes again. I really wish I could go live somewhere I didn't have to interact with them. Alas.

I agree, it's terrible. That would so make me print a bunch of stickers with Izzard-related quotes and shit to cover that car with, ugh.

EYEROLL. (Um, also? In KY? I feel like those things would serve to make people like him more, not less.)

My favorite thing ever along those lines was, a couple of years ago, seeing a truck covered with stickers advertising the NRA, "Nobama," etc....along with one that said "Republicans for Voldemort." (Apparently they didn't read the books or even see the movies.) I really, really wished I had my camera with me.

Good thing you don't live where I do. I may be the only liberal in town. :) I worry a lot about who my child is potentially making friends with in school. Most of the last school year was a fight for him not to get teased about his shoulder length hair. I even had to point it out to the teacher that she was doing it wrong. She actually tried to argue that the name calling was understandable because it was confusing to the kindergarten boys. I so called that bullshit. Good thing I love to rock the boat.

Hee! I really wanted to, I don't know, get out of my car and smack him. But that would've involved getting out into traffic, so, no. *g*

He had a Virginia license plate -- very probably military, stationed at Ft. Knox, though I suppose he could just be here vacationing, or something. Maybe.

"Republicans for Voldemort"? HAHAHAHA. Yeah. Obvs didn't see the movies or read the books. We hope?

Where do you live? *g* I'm in central Kentucky, in a semi-rural area. *I'm* probably the only liberal in my town :) And yeah, I understand worrying about your kid and who/what he's exposed to. All I can say is do the best you can do at home, and keep reinforcing what you tell him.

Name-calling is not understandable under any circumstances, and in this day and age I have trouble believing those kindergarten boys have never seen anyone else ever with long(er) hair. Hell, there were kids in Matthew's elementary school with earrings. Boys, I mean. Gender stereotypes in 2010 is just stupid.

also had "Got Jesus?" AND National Rifle Association stickers.

*SIGH* Yeah. 'Cause Jesus was *all about* weaponry.

Did you see this the other day? Jesus as Tea Partier (http://www.theatlanticwire.com/features/view/feature/Jesus-as-Tea-Partier-1535)

Heh.

See, *I* mind the Jesus bumper stickers because I can't help but think it's awfully trivializing for my personal Divinity to be stuck to someone's car frame where it can collect bug carcasses.

Not to mention the whole "guns, god, and social conservatism!" that tends to give the rest of us a bad name. I wasn't bugged at all by your original post, but thank you for editing it nonetheless! *HUGS*

Rio Linda, CA. It's literally less than ten minutes from the capital and almost part of Sac, but it's very redneck. IDEK?

ll I can say is do the best you can do at home, and keep reinforcing what you tell him. I do - all the time and we have met people who seem reasonably open is spite of the general conservatism in the area.

Gender stereotypes in 2010 is just stupid. It is, which is why I've let my son make his own choices and backed them up. :)Half his class had that fuax mohawk thing going on - talk about questionable fashion choices ... :)

*hugs back* Thank you. I really wasn't trying to make any message about Jesus; but the whole combination of, as you said, "guns, god and social conservatism"... it bugs me a lot. The people who make a statement like "I'm white, straight, republican, how else can I piss you off?" and then turn around and profess anything to do with Jesus -- who was all about love and understanding and acceptance -- it just smacks of so much hypocrisy, y'know?
