I had the pleasure of winning
thehighwaywoman in the last round of Sweet Charity, and promptly asked her for a story in her By Any Other Name (What Matters Is What Something Is) 'verse.
She wrote Travel the Shadows With Me (Your Dream) for me. *hugs it tight*
It's Sam/Dean, and Sam's daughter, and it's sweet and loving and schmoopy and wonderful. It's everything I wanted. Here, have an excerpt:
Less than a year old, and Sam's favorite sound is her laughing. She has two tiny white teeth like grains of rice, a huge goofy grin, and he likes to think maybe she got that from Dean via some quirk of genetics.
His second favorite sound is Dean singing to her when he thinks Sam isn't awake and listening.
Dean Winchester sings Janis Joplin and Joan Jett for her, sometimes gritting his teeth, and in return she seems to develop a tolerance and then an appreciation for Metallica. "Enter Sandman" is as far as Dean's willing to go with the fairy tales. He says he'd rather have his toenails ripped out than scar her for life with the usual crap lullabies. Sam has to admit Dean's got a point there. Cradles falling out of trees and spiders climbing up waterspouts? Creepy.
So.Very.Wonderful. Go read, and be sure to leave her feedback :)
