Signal Boost

By way of [livejournal.com profile] beanside:

The median income in the South Dakota Pine Ridge reservation is $2800. No, I didn't misplace a zero. That's just under three thousand dollars. Every year, as the weather changes, the people look at their elders and wonder which of them will freeze to death this year. With limited funding and an unemployment rate that hovers around 85% during the summer, the people simply don't have the means to make do. The nearest city is about 120 miles away, on roads that are not able to be traveled when the winter snows come. The good news, is that you can help.

Check out this link here for the info, and help save lives. The St Francis Fuel Company is willing to keep an account for donations, so even a few dollars can help families to buy propane for space heaters.

And echoing what [livejournal.com profile] beanside said: The thought that someone in the United States is forced to live in this kind of poverty and fear is disgusting. But since I can't change the past, or current politics, I can give a few dollars to help a family keep their children and grandparents alive.

WTH. This is horrifying.

It's incredibly horrifying. We can send literally billions of dollars overseas to aid other countries...but we have people freezing to death (and/or starving to death, and so on) here in our own country.

It's off the scale in WRONG, imo.

Okay, wow, signal-boosting all to hell.

Yeah. :(

And like I was saying to Killa, up above, it's incomprehensible to me how we can send billions of dollars in aid to other countries--but we have people freezing to death, and starving to death, here in OUR country. What's wrong with that picture?

Holy crap, that is amazing. And I mean that in a not-good way. I'm definitely boosting this where I can.
