I'm meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelting

Two days ago the temps edged up to about 83, plus humidity, and I decided screw it, I'm too old to be needlessly uncomfortable, and decided we would turn the a/c on. Except the a/c didn't work. It ran, but no cold air came out. So I called maintenance yesterday, and they came and took a look -- and anyone who's read this journal for the last couple of years knows I've had trouble with the damn thing for several summers now -- and came in and said, "the compressor's shot, we'll have to replace it. I have to order a new one."

Yesterday it was 87, with humidity somewhere around 75%. It was flat-out miserable.

Today is supposed to be 89. Right now the humidity is holding at 90%. I really hope as the temperature goes up the humidity falls some.

The maintenance guy said he would put a rush on the compressor and hopefully could have it by this afternoon. I really, really hope it comes in. I'm not sure I can handle another day like yesterday. o_O

Keep a cool washcloth on the back of your neck. Get two damp, stuff them in the fridge, and take one out once it's cold. Switch out every so often. It'll keep you cool better than a fan!

I had to deal with no A/C in Boston for an entire summer (yes, it gets dog-hot there, although not as dog-hot day round as in Atlanta) and I think without the washcloth trick I would have broken down and tried to steal a window A/C unit or something.

I live in Central Florida and with the heat index, we're up around 100 degrees already and it's only May. My worst nightmare is the a/c going out. I feel for you...

Eeps. We have a spare room. The heat still kicks on in the early mornings. IJS.

Seriously, I feel for you. I hope like hell the damned part comes in, and the guy can get your AC up and running.

*douses you with ice and fans you* i'm so sorry, i hope that the compressor comes in this afternoon. that washcloth on the back of your neck sounds like a good idea.
