Dear Matthew:

One way to ensure me freaking out is to text me an unintelligible message, asking 'what do I do mom', and then NOT ANSWER WHEN I CALL YOU BACK.

I've called him three times, I've texted him twice, I've called Doug's phone twice and got voice mail, and I've texted the gf's phone. NO ONE IS ANSWERING. ANYWHERE.

No love,

Your very worried mother

Fuck me, I do not need to be panicking at 12:30 in the morning when it's most likely nothing worth panicking over.

And yet.

ARGH.

ETA: Oh, thank God. Matthew texted me again, and then called and everything's okay. *collapses*

AGH. THAT'S AWFUL. I hope you hear back from him ASAP. I know I used to do shit like that to my mom...not a lot, but it happened. But JEEZ. Scary:(

It's likely going to turn out not to even be anything that needed to be worried about. In which case? I'm going to KILL HIM WHEN I SEE HIM AGAIN OMG. Slowly and painfully.

EEK! Fingers crossed everything is okay and you can get hold of him ASAP. I've done that to my parents too - sent a panicked message and then apparently (accidentally) fallen off the face of the earth and leaving them to worry. *HUG*

I suspect everyone's asleep -- and I know Matthew has had trouble getting a signal for his phone, which is why I called/texted the others. But so help me god, if this was nothing and I'm sitting here biting my fingernails needlessly I'm going to kill him when I see him again. ARGH.

One of my coworkers has a teenaged son who tends to get into (relatively minor) trouble a *lot*. One day a few months ago, he got a text from this son on his phone: "How fast can you get to the courthouse?"

And then the son did not answer the phone when my coworker called him.

Found out later that the son had gone to the courthouse to pay a speeding ticket, and was considering fighting it in court (which he decided not to do).

*sigh*
