I've come to the conclusion that I spend 90% of (almost) any conversation with Matthew trying to explain the other ten percent. *headdesk* Example:

We watched Jurassic Park last night, and the scene at the dining table, when Ian Malcom says, What's so great about discovery? It's a violent, penetrative act. What you call discovery, I call the rape of the natural world. So Matthew says, "I never understand that. You can't rape the earth."

That generated a whole conversation on metaphors and what Ian was actually saying/meant, and wow.

I got no writing done this weekend.

My coworkers are INSANE.

It's Monday again. How'd that happen? Who do I have to pay off to get Mondays to stop for a while? I need some three-day weekends.

I am so tired of political ads I could scream. How many days until the election?

Matthew needs, pretty much, an entirely new wardrobe, since he's outgrown everything in his closet (y'all might think I'm overexaggerating, but I'm NOT, dammit).

Is it too early for a nap? How 'bout now? *sigh*

This might not be much consolidation, but I think it's great that Matthew is at least talking to you about things. Even if it means a lot of explaining. When I was his age, I didn't really talk a lot with my parents and basically went through puberty alone. (Because this is what I wanted, not because my parents didn't talk to me.)
